Kevin Parrish / Digital Trends Chromebooksĭevices based on Google’s Chrome OS have a built-in blue light filter called Night Light. Give it a try to see if it improves your sleep habits and helpss you be healthier, more productive, and generally a happier Mac user. MacOSįirst introduced in iOS, Apple brought Night Shift to Macs in MacOS Sierra in March 2017. By reducing the amount of blue light, however, the Night Light feature will then limit the impact of using your Windows 10 PC late at night - you could find it easier to get to sleep, and your sleep might be deeper and more restful. After a while, your eyes will adjust to the change, and it should be less obvious. When you first turn the feature on, you’ll notice the color shift immediately. Then, you can either choose to let Night Light turn itself on at sunset and off at sunrise - automatically determined by your location - or you can set the time manually by clicking Set Hours and choosing when the feature should turn on and off. Step 5: To set the schedule, toggle the Schedule Night Light option to on. Here, you’ll find options for turning Night Light on immediately, adjusting the strength, and scheduling when it turns on and off. Turning the feature on is a simple process. Called Night Light, this feature shifts the Windows 10 display to show warmer colors that reduce the amount of emitted blue light. Microsoft added a blue light-limiting feature to Windows 10 in the Creators Update released in April 2017. That’s why using a blue light filter is so important. Even worse is the blue light emitted by fluorescent and LED lights - like those on our various device displays - which cause us to be more alert and produce even less melatonin. When we use artificial lighting to extend our day, however, our bodies get confused, and the various sleep signals are disrupted. That induces our hypothalamus to start the process of producing melatonin and other sleep hormones and reducing our body temperature. In the most natural setting, which is one where we’re only exposed to sunlight, our retinas sense when the sun descends and the environment grows darker. Sleep is a part of the circadian rhythm, which is the cycle of biological processes that are determined in part by the levels of light and dark exposed to our bodies. The reason blue light hurts is purely biological. If you’re looking for a blue light filter for your smartphone, however, there are plenty of great apps you can download from the Google Play Store or iOS App Store. Desktop screens and laptops typically have a built-in filter you can access, and there are downloadable options in case your computer doesn’t have this feature available. ![]() Whether you are spending your day on a Windows PC, Mac, or Chromebook, you should enable their blue light filter to help ease the strain on your eyes. ![]() The selected “NFIP Direct” contractor would be responsible for selling and servicing a subset of NFIP flood insurance policies characterized by the agency as “the highest risk,” that is, “policies for properties deemed too high of a risk for flood damage to be profitable.” Contracting Officer’s Statement at 1 AR, Tab M, Acquisition Plan, July 28, 2020, at 4. Similarly, the online FAQ for Seafarers does not address this situation.Catan VR allows tabletop fans and new players alike to experience the best-selling board game in a fresh, fully-immersive format. Is this the correct interpretation? Is this specific question addressed anywhere else? The rules for Seafarers has a small section on the Road Building Development Card, but only to say that it can be used to build roads and/or ships as opposed to just roads. My opponents and I agreed (before I placed any roads/ships) that I could uncover the first hex before placing the second road/ship, based primarily on the use of the word "immediately" in the scenario description. If you place a ship or road that connects to the intersection of an unexplored hex, you must immediately draw the top hex from the pile and place it face up in the empty space. However, the rules for The Fog Island scenario (page 14) states (emphasis added): Place 2 new roads as if you had just built them. The text of the Road Building Development Card seems to imply that the placement of both roads/ships occurs at the same time, in which case I would have to build the roads/ships before uncovering hex(es): But if the first uncovered hex is a land hex with a high probability chip, I might prefer to build the second road/ship alongside it in preparation for building a settlement. If the first uncovered hex is a sea hex, for example, I will probably prefer to build the second road/ship to uncover the second hex. ![]() Put another way, can I build one road/ship from the Road Building Development Card to uncover the first hex, and then use that information to make my choice on where to build the second road/ship from the Road Building card?Īs the player with the Road Building card I would prefer to uncover hexes as I build roads/ships so that I can make a more informed choice for the placement of the second road/ship. Must I build both roads/ships from Road Building immediately and then uncover hex(es), or may I uncover hexes as I build the two roads/ships? I also had the Road Building Development Card, so I could build two roads/ships at once. I had a situation in which I was in a position to build a single road/ship to discover an unexplored hex, or a single different road/ship to discover a different unexplored hex. The Road Building Development Card can be used to build two roads or two ships or one of each. The discovered hex may be a land or sea hex. Scenario 3 of the Seafarers expansion to The Settlers of Catan is The Fog Island, in which players "discover" the hexes in the middle of the game board by building a road or ship that connects to the intersection of an unexplored hex. ![]() Cape cart: A two-wheeled four-seater carriage drawn by two horses and formerly used in South Africa.Calash or Calèshe: see barouche: A four-wheeled, shallow vehicle with two double seats inside, arranged vis-à-vis, so that the sitters on the front seat faced those on the back seat.Joseph Hansom based the design of his public hire vehicle on the cabriolet so the name cab stuck to vehicles for public hire. A four-wheeled vehicle is also steered by the shafts or pole, which are attached to the front axle this swivels on a turntable or "fifth wheel" beneath the vehicle.įrom the 15th century drivers of carts were known as carmen, and in London were represented by the Worshipful Company of Carmen. Four-wheeled vehicles remain level on their own, and so the shafts or pole are hinged vertically, allowing them to rise and fall with the movement of the animals. Two-wheeled vehicles are balanced by the distribution of weight of the load (driver, passengers, and goods) over the axle, and then held level by the animal – this means that the shafts (or sometimes a pole for two animals) must be fixed rigidly to the vehicle's body. Horse-drawn carriages have been in use for at least 3,500 years. Sometimes at a steep hill with frequent traffic, such a team would be hired to passing wagons to help them up or down the hill. Very heavy loads sometimes had an additional team behind to slow the vehicle down steep hills. Other arrangements are also possible, for example, three or more abreast (a troika), a wheel pair with a single lead animal (a "unicorn"), or a wheel pair with three lead animals abreast (a "pickaxe"). Vehicles which are pulled by a pair (or by a team of several pairs) have a pole which attaches between the wheel pair. Two animals in single file are referred to as a tandem arrangement, and three as a randem. Vehicles pulled by one animal (or by animals in a single file) have two shafts which attach either side of the rearmost animal (the wheel animal or wheeler). Heavy wagons, carts and agricultural implements can also be pulled by other large draught animals such as oxen, water buffalo, yaks or even camels and elephants. Other smaller animals are occasionally used, such as large dogs, llamas and goats (see draught animals). Very light carts and wagons can also be pulled by donkeys (much smaller than horses), ponies or mules. Four-wheeled vehicles have many names – one for heavy loads is most commonly called a wagon. Historically a wide variety of arrangements of horses and vehicles have been used, from chariot racing, which involved a small vehicle and four horses abreast, to horsecars or trollies, which used two horses to pull a car that was used in cities before electric trams were developed.Ī two-wheeled horse-drawn vehicle is a cart (see various types below, both for carrying people and for goods).
